Uniform
At our school, we ask that all pupils wear our school uniform. We believe this is important because it fosters a feeling of pride in belonging to our school family.
Main Uniform
The uniform consists of the following:
Jumper/cardigan /sweatshirt - royal blue
Shirt/blouse/polo top - pale blue/white/grey
Trousers/skirt/pinafore dress - grey
Socks - navy/white/grey
Shorts - grey
Summer dress - blue & white check or stripe
Plain, black school shoes or boots. Fashion shoes or trainers (even if they are black) are not appropriate.
Any wellingtons should be changed on arrival at school into appropriate indoor shoes.
PE Kit
PE is a statutory subject and children need a kit comprising of:
Shorts - plain navy or black
T-shirt /polo shirt - plain blue or plain white
Pumps - black
Plain, non-branded trainers - optional for outdoors
For winter, a plain navy or black track suit, or top and joggers. This is worn over the PE kit. It does not replace it.
Our school uniform can be purchased from a number of local shops.

Hats/Hair Coverings: Children may not wear hats, caps, handkerchiefs, bandanas, scarves, or other head coverings indoors at school. Exceptions can be made for religious and/or medical reasons. However, during the summer months we ask all parents to ensure that their child brings a hat to school for outdoor activities.
Hair: Hair should be neat, brushed and tied back if long – for both girls and boys. Any hair accessories should be black or blue.
Piercings: Earrings if worn must only be small studs and either be removed by the child or left at home on PE days. Taping over of earrings in PE is not permitted.
Necklaces/Bracelets/Watches: Necklaces and bracelets are not permitted. Watches can be worn, but must be removed by the child for sporting activities
Nails/Make up: Nails should be free of any artificial enhancements or colour. Make up is not permitted.
Non-Uniform Days: Non-uniform days are to celebrate special occasions or for fund raising purposes. The expectation is for the child to wear garments that fit appropriately and are non-offensive. Any article of clothing that is deemed inappropriate for a non-uniform day, will result in the child being required to change. Sometimes for school trips other clothing is requested, please consider appropriateness for the weather conditions expected.
The Department for Education (DfE) states schools in England must ensure that school uniform costs are reasonable, and parents get the best value for money. Research from the DfE in 2015 showed that parents can save almost £50 on average if they can buy all school uniform items from any store, compared to uniform which all needs to be bought from a designated shop or school. Schools are now required to help keep costs down by taking steps to remove unnecessary branded items and allowing more high-street options, like supermarket own-brand uniform.
To support families, schools have to make sure second-hand uniforms are available, also helping work towards achieving net zero carbon emissions. In the UK, an estimated 350,000 tonnes of clothes end up in landfill every year and encouraging families to use second-hand uniform can reduce waste and bring down emissions from manufacturing new garments, while making it cost-effective for families.
At St George’s, we are committed to this scheme and will be hold regular second-hand uniform sales. We are always grateful for any donations. Parents are invited to enquire about any uniform we have available in school at any time.
