MUSIC
Music is a unique and powerful form of communication that can change the way people feel, think and act. It combines creativity with emotion, enabling personal expression, reflection and development.
At St. George's music is taught so that all children will find enjoyment in creating and listening to music and see themselves as musicians. The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that all children:
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music
- are taught to sing, create and compose music
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated
The children in Reception, Year 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are following our new and exciting music scheme 'Charanga'. This is taught in class by school staff. The lessons are fun with good progression and the songs are very catchy!
Year 3 are taught by specialist music teachers through the Wider Opportunities Scheme linked with Derbyshire Music Hub. The children will be learning the string instruments, cello and violin.
We also offer a wide range of other musical experiences including listening to and singing a range of music genres in Collective Worship, learning songs linked to our topic areas, and having the the chance to perform to other classes and parents through Class Collective Worship/performances.
During their time at St. George's, the children have some amazing trips linked to music such as going to see 'The Snowman' with a live orchestra, taking part in a huge concert with Young Voices and playing with the world famous Halle Orchestra!
