At St George's we teach an understanding of natural phenomena through the disciplines of chemistry, physics and biology. Our Science lessons aim to stimulate a child’s curiosity in finding out why things happen in the way they do. We teach methods of enquiry and investigation to stimulate creative thought. Children learn to ask scientific questions and begin to appreciate the way in which Science will affect the future on a personal, national, and global level.
During Recycle Week, our ECO councilors began to monitor the paper recycling in each classroom by making sure that all paper is put into the correct boxes and not straight into the general waste bins.
Children throughout the school have also been busy helping with the recycling at home!
Our ECO councilors began monitoring the use of electricity in our classrooms. They are taking their roles very seriously and making sure our lights are turned off when no one is in the classroom and our interactive whiteboards are switched off when not it use.
Take a look back on the super science we did last year...
Children carried out a number of investigations linked to last years science week theme: 'CONNECTIONS'
Here are Year 1 and Year 3 in action!
Year 2 created some fantastic 3D life cycles of different animals.
KS1 enjoyed a live science lesson from the National Farming Union
'How are tractors connected to space?'
Upper Key stage 2 watched a live farming lesson all about sheep and their wool...
Year 6 produced some excellent information texts as a result!
What else have we been up to?
Fantastic Finish!
Parents were recently invited in to conclude a Science topic on the environment with a focus on 'Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.'
Look at our recycled robots:
Year 1 spent the afternoon investigating autumnal features during a walk around our school grounds.
Year 2 made Lego houses before finding out which material would make the most suitable roof.
Year 3 investigated reflective materials before using the most suitable one to design a book bag.
Year 4 completed an enquiry based STEM activity investigating pneumatics.
Year 6 made and recorded their very own TV programmes about ‘How we see’!
We combined Recycle Week and Space Week to launch a whole school competition.
Children were challenged with creating their very own satellites using recycling materials.
Take a look at some of their amazing results!
Year 2 made cardboard rockets to launch!
How far do you think they were able to travel?
Year 4 made their own space maps!
Year 2 spent a day at CONKERS as part of their science topic, ‘Animals and their Habitats’.
Children organised food chains before making their very own predators and pray from clay!
They also worked in small groups to build bug hotels in the woods – we hope all of the tiny creatures like their new homes!
