Physical Education
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. (Statutory Guidance 2013)
PE is taught by class teachers or a specialist coach within two sessions each week and will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities through the year. Children in Y5 have the opportunity to go swimming each week as one of their PE lessons. This is at no cost to parents.
We use a resource called 'Complete PE' to support teachers in delivering high quality PE lessons.
PE at St. George’s enables children to learn skills such as throwing, catching, dribbling, hitting, striking and fielding. Once they have learned these skills, they are taught how to apply them to games such as netball, football, hockey and rounders.
We also use external coaches who run enrichment days through the year. Children are able to take part in many activities they may not have the chance to take part in outside of school. This includes indoor kurling, boccia, archery, fencing, trampolining and goal ball.
We offer a range of after school clubs through the year. These include football, archery, tennis and cricket.
We also take part in local tournaments and events with other schools.
